Bala attractions Bala Lake Railway, Llanuwchllyn, Gwynedd Tel: 01678 540666. The 2ft gauge line offers a delightful 9 mile return journey along Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake), through the beautiful scenery of the Snowdonia National Park. Location: On the outskirts of Bala.

Bala attractions Cymmer Abbey, near Dolgellau. Cymmer Abbey was founded in 1198. The buildings were never completed and of the church, only the nave was ever built. The situation is typically Cistercian, in a remote valley with fast-flowing streams. Today the site is in the care of the Welsh Historic Monuments. Remains of the church and of the cloister layout can be viewed by the public. About 13 miles southwest of Bala.

Bala attractions Pistyll Rhaeadr, Tel: 01691 780392. Situated in the Berwyn mountains, Pistyll Rhaeadr is 240 ft (74 metres) tall, the highest waterfall in Wales & England. It is found in a remote location in Powys, near Llanrhaeadr ym Mochnant, and is definitely the hardest of the Seven Wonders to reach. Hundreds of people visit the imposing falls every year, there is a coffee and gift shop and a campsite nearby. www.pistyllrhaeadr.co.uk. About 15 miles east of Bala, reached off the B4580 from Bala to Oswestry road.
