Ashington is proud of its locally produced world class footballers,
including Jack and Sir Bobby Charlton. A fine statue pays fitting
tribute to another football hero Jackie Milburn, uncle of Jack
and Bobby, and who played football for Newcastle United between
the years of 1943-1957. It is located in the main pedestrian
shopping area of the town (photo right). About 7 miles north
of Blyth.
