Durham Cathedral and Castle

The Castle is now part of the University College but tours take
place throughout the day. With the Cathedral, it is still very

Beamish - The North of England Open Air Museum, Co. Durham Tel:
0191 370 4000. Visit the town, colliery village, farm, railway
station, Pockerley Manor and 1825 railway, recreating life in
the North East in the early 1800's and 1900's. Beamish Museum
is an open air museum where you can go underground in a drift
mine, visit the pit cottages, Victorian schoolroom, a Victorian
dentist and an old fashioned sweet shop. Step on board our trams

Escomb church was built around 670 A.D & can be found in
the village of Escomb on the west side of Bishop Auckland close
to Crook. Much of the stonework came from the remains of the
nearby Roman Fort at Binchester. Now restored, it is one of the
finest examples of early Christian architecture in Northern Europe.
