Durham Cathedral and Castle
- Here you can visit the Tomb of St. Cuthbert and The Venerable
Bede. The Castle is now part of the University College but tours
take place throughout the day. With the Cathedral, it is still
very much an icon of the City and County of Durham. University

DLI Museum and Durham
Art Gallery, Durham City. In 1881, The Durham Light Infantry
was formed and soon saw action in Egypt and against the Boers
in South Africa. Café, shop, parking, attractive grounds.
Durham Town Hall. Built in 1850. Features include superb stained
glass windows, paintings, heraldic symbols and a magnificent

Durham Heritage Centre.
Museum of local history telling the story of Durham, housed in
a medieval church. Audio-visual, brass-rubbing and shop. In the
centre of Durham.
University of Durham Botanic Garden. Eighteen-acre garden set
in mature woodland with exotic trees from America and the Himalayas.
Prince Bishops Garden, tropical house, cactus house with
butterflies and insects. Visitor centre with changing exhibitions,
cafe and toilets. On the outskirts of Durham.
Beamish - The North of
England Open Air Museum, Co. Durham Tel: 0191 370 4000. Visit
the town, colliery village, farm, railway station, Pockerley
Manor and 1825 railway, recreating life in the North East in
the early 1800's and 1900's. Beamish Museum is an open air museum
where you can go underground in a drift mine, visit the pit cottages,
Victorian schoolroom, a Victorian dentist and an old fashioned
sweet shop. Step on board our trams and we'll transport you into
