Slains Castle is a large imposing ruin, set on the dramatic cliff
tops about 1 mile from Cruden Bay. It is one of the most famous
castles in Scotland, first erected in 1597 by the 9th Earl of
Erroll. About 6 miles east of Ellon.
Forvie National Nature
Reserve, Sands of Forvie. This huge area of sand dunes and coastal
heath lies next to the Ythan Estuary. The estuary, riverside
and seacliffs combine to make this a particularly rich area for
a variety of plants and wildlife. In particular, it supports
the largest colony of breeding eider duck in Britain and attracts
large numbers of geese and waders in winter. About 5 miles east
of Ellon.

842352. The Garden was laid out in 1675 by Pitmedden's first
baronet, Sir Alexander Seton, and was re-created by the National
Trust for Scotland in the 1950s. Pitmedden features over 5 miles
of box hedging arranged in intricate patterns to form six parterres,
filled with some 40,000 plants bursting with colour in the summer
months. About 4 miles west of Ellon.
