Fortrose Cathedral.Tel: 01667 460232. Only the south aisle of
the nave and chapter house survive at this beautiful red sandstone
cathedral, but the plan of the buildings are laid out in the
grass. The cathedral was built in the first half of the 13th
century, though it was extended and altered in the 14th and 15th
centuries. Location: In the centre of Fortrose.
Groam House Museum and
Pictish Centre, High Street, Rosemarkie, Ross-shire, Scotland
IV10 8UF. Tel: 01381 620961. The museum is an outstanding Pictish
Centre for Ross and Cromarty. The unique display is focussed
on 15 carved Pictish stones. All the stones originated in Rosemarkie,
some dating back to the 8th century AD, when it was an important
centre of early Christianity. About 1 mile northeast of Fortrose.
Cromarty Courthouse Museum, Church Street, CROMARTY IV11 8XATel:
01381 600418. The unspoilt, 18th century port of Cromarty sits
at the tip of the Black Isle peninsula. Our museum, in the town's
eighteenth- century Courthouse, uses extensive research and modern
technology to help you share our enthusiasm for Cromarty - past
