Tealing Earth House and Dovecot. Tealing is a village 9 miles
north of Dundee. The earth house near Tealing dates from the
Iron Age. Originally there would have been a wooden hut here
and the tunnel underground would have provided a cool place to
store grain and food. There is a fine Dovecote (a house to keep
doves or pigeons) dating from 1595. About 6 miles north of Newport

HM Frigate Unicorn, Victoria
Dock, Dundee, DD1 3JA. Tel: 01382 200 893. His Majesty's Frigate
Unicorn, of 46 guns, was built for the Royal Navy in the Royal
Dockyard at Chatham, and launched in 1824. The classic sailing
frigate was a fast and rakish vessel yet still large enough to
carry a useful armament, and it was one of the most successful
warship designs of the age. Unicorn's construction, however,
is far from conventional and she is a unique survivor from the
last grand flourish of wooden shipbuilding, before it was eclipsed
by steam and iron. The Frigate Unicorn is now the most completely
original preserved wooden sailing ship in the world. www.frigateunicorn.org.
