Orkney attractions ST MAGNUS CATHEDRAL, Kirkwall, is one of Orkney's most magnificent landmarks - towering above the Kirkwall landscape with its distinctive red sandstone hues. Visitors can explore the upper areas of the Cathedral and the tower on guided tours, negotiating of some very tight and confined spiral stone staircases and giving stunning views, both within the Cathedral itself and of much of Orkney from the tower. In the centre of Mainland, Orkney Isles.

Orkney attractions Stromness Museum, 54 Alfred Street, Stromness, Orkney KW16 3DF. Tel: 01856 850 025. Maritime History - Shipping, fishing, whaling, the Hudson's Bay Company and the German Fleet in Scapa Flow. Stromness is on the west coast of mainland Orkney Isles.

Orkney attractions The Old Man of Hoy is a sandstone rock stack rising close to the sea about 450 feet high, and is considered to challenge the most experienced climbers. The first successful ascent was televised in 1966 and featured Sir Chris Bonington. As the Old Man of Hoy is susceptible to erosion and takes an annual battering from the winter elements, nobody knows how much longer it will stand before being claimed by the sea. Hoy is an island in the west of the Orkney Isles.
