841454. The museum is housed in the old Methodist Chapel. The
ground floor has extensive displays of lives of the past residents
of Staithes, whilst the upper floor is crammed with exhibits
from the life and voyages of Captain James Cook. There is a life-size
street scene of 1745 and over 200 books dating from 1773, of
Cook' s life and journeys. Location: In the centre of Staithes.
Saltburn Smugglers Heritage

The award winning Saltburn Smugglers is set in ancient fishermens
cottages, blending costumed characters with authentic sounds
and smells. About 4 miles west of Staithes.
Whitby Abbey, Whitby Tel: 01947 603568. From high on its commanding
cliff top, Whitby Abbey overlooks the picturesque fishing town
of Whiby. The haunting ruins are now maintained by English Heritage,
and were once the inspiration for Bram Stoker's "Dracula".
About 8 miles southeast of Staithes.
The Cleveland Way is a
110 mile National Trail between Helmsley and Filey via Osmotherley,
Saltburn, Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay, Ravenscar and Scarborough,
around the North York Moors National Parks. It passes right through
Staithes. Location: In the centre of Staithes.
