Spofforth Castle, Spofforth,
Harrogate, North Yorkshire Tel. 0870 331 1181 The ruins of a
hall range are all that remain from a fortified house. The site
had been the home of the Percy family since Norman times. There
is a 14th century two-storey chamber to the north of the hall
that has a polygonal stair turret on the north-west corner. The
main hall was rebuilt in the 15th century. It is in the care
of English Heritage. About 3 miles northwest of Wetherby.
Harewood House, Harewood, Leeds LS17 9LG Tel: 0113 218 1010 Harewood
House is home to the Queen's cousin, the Earl of Harewood. The
House is set in spectacular grounds with formal gardens, a sweeping
terrace and woodland walks. There is an outstanding art collection,
splendid State Rooms and a fascinating 'Below Stairs' exhibition.

Wetherby containing collections of furniture, porcelain and paintings.
Set in 66 acres of formal grounds and 100 acres of pleasure grounds.

Knaresborough Castle is beautifully positioned high on a cliff
overlooking the River Nidd, very close to the centre of Knaresborough.
Also on site is the Courthouse Museum in one of the Castle's
oldest buildings. The King's Tower, which also houses the dungeon,
still stands. Location: About 5 miles north of Wetherby.
